War Drawings 1-14
Dimensions: H 30 x W 21 cms
Medium: Charcoal on Fabiano paper
This series of charcoals was begun at the outbreak of Russo-Ukrainian War of February 2022. Inspired by the arresting ‘war series’ of many previous artists including Henry Moore and the great pacifist German artist Käthe Kollwitz, a German artist whose woodcuts, drawings and etchings depict the bereaved: mothers, parents, widows. I was struck by the timelessness of the images flooding the news channels at this time, depicting the overnight devastation, injury and loss of life that particularly effect women and children and leave them so vulnerable.
